Colombo: It is understandable enough that India aim to wrap up their ODI series in Sri Lanka 4-1. But, as both captains have admitted a lot depends on the toss how the landscape of the last game will shape.

With Mahendra Singh Dhoni winning the two that mattered at Premadasa Stadium last Sunday and again on Wednesday, it has left Sri Lanka in the position they were last October when England won the five-match ODI series 3-2.

While India are unlikely to change their side, Sri Lanka, desperate to pull one back may look at a new batting line up. Although they have lost the series, there is a thought they can still salvage something with a facile victory.

Colombo: You can tie a fancy label around it with a sky blue ribbon and sell the idea, and India may have bought into it as well.

It is just a perception of course but India's coach Gary Kirsten is maybe thinking of regarding the three ODI matches against Sri Lanka at Premadasa Stadium as a series within a series. This is after levelling the five-match Idea Cup tournament in Dambulla last Wednesday.

Colombo: India's first innings slide continued on day one of the crucial third Test on Friday. It could not have been easy for the skipper Anil Kumble to watch either.

Kumble had no hesitation in deciding to bat first at P Sara Oval, but the way his batsmen handed the job was far from impressive.

A smart stumping by Prasana Jayawardene of VVS Laxman off Ajantha Mendis removed the last of the tourist's top batsmen three balls before tea. It left India on 190-6 and the need for the lower order to rescue their side from what has been a self-inflicted loss of wickets.

While the rookie and the veteran struggle to overcome Sri Lanka's tight grip in the deciding match of the series, recalled Parthiv Patel and his partner Laxman did what they could to pick up runs against the dual spin attack of Muttiah Muralitharan and Mendis.

But Laxman over-balanced as he failed to read the top-spin flick. The wicketkeeper needed no invitation to perform what comes naturally in such cases an whipped off the bails as Rudi Koertzen didn't need the third umpire to know that Laxman had lifted his foot at the crucial moment.

At tea, on what is a good batting surface, although the bounce may have been disconcerting at times, creating doubt at times in minds of the batsmen, India have no one to blame but themselves in this case for throwing away wickets.

Even Gautam Gambhir, who had batted with skill and care for 72 and looked set to score a century, failed as did Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, to pick up the straight ball. Their dismissals were all referred to the third umpire, Billy Doctrove.

It is this culpability for failing to pick up the straight ball before lunch that has left India in the predicament they find themselves.

While Tendulkar and Dravid lost their wickets to debutant Dammika Prasad, a 25-year-old with an aggressive, if passionate approach to bowling and this three wickets were well deserved as he bowled a tight, competitive live.

As it is, Tendulkar's quest to beat Brian Lara's record as the leading run-scorer at Test level still eludes the Mumbai batsman.

Tendulkar asked for the referral after Mark Benson gave him out and the review indicated the ball would have carried on hitting the middle and leg stumps. Tendulkar's six runs in this innings means that he has failed to make an impression so far this series and requires another 90 runs to go ahead of Lara.

But Prasad, presented with his cap before the Test started at the refurbished venue, bowled a tight an accurate off-stump line that had the batsmen often in trouble, although his dismissal of Virender Sehwag was a tad fortunate.

London: Michael Vaughan on Sunday resigned as England cricket captain, saying it was both the hardest and the easiest decision he has made.

His decision follows Saturday's five-wicket defeat against South Africa in the third Test at Edgbaston, which gave the Proteas an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series.

SA-England series now five-star affair

Durban: Future Test series between South Africa and England have been granted 'icon' status by the controlling bodies of both countries to put them on a level similar to the Ashes series between England and Australia.

This means that all future series between the two countries will consist of five Test matches and seven One Day Internationals, as was previously the case. The next series between South Africa and England will take place in South Africa in the summer of 2009/10.

The proposal has been agreed to in principle by Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), subject to operational and logistical issues being finalized.

Announcing the news on Wednesday, South Africa President Norman Arendse said: "This is a wonderful recognition for South African cricket and the Proteas Castle Test squad which has given great performance in recent months to gain second place on the ICC Reliance Mobile Test rankings."

"It is also important to emphasize the fact that Test cricket remains the ultimate level of international competition and this is born out by this latest agreement between our two boards."

All Test series between South Africa and England have been intensely contested since South Africa's re-admission to world cricket. There have been six series between the two countries with each side winning two and the other two being shared.

Indian Heros won by 6 wickets
Karachi: Indian skipper MS Dhoni said his bowlers were helpless against a rampaging Younis Khan, who steered Pakistan to a comprehensive eight-wicket win against India and kept alive his side's hopes of making the final of the Asia Cup against Sri Lanka.

Younis struck an unbeaten century on Wednesday to help Pakistan overhaul India's competitive total of 308.

"I think Younis Khan played a brilliant innings. The bowlers tried everything against him but he was always ahead of them. He didn't take pressure at all," Dhoni told reporters after the match.

Now India must beat Sri Lanka on Thursday in their last Super Four match to secure a place in the final, to be played on Sunday.

The Indian skipper said the pitch was a belter and even 308 runs were not enough to defend.

"It was a very good batting track and frankly speaking we tried everything. Nothing worked. When I and Rohit were batting we were under pressure because of the quick loss of wickets. On such tracks taking wickets is the key to victory.

"We will go in there and give it our best. But on these pitches you need experienced and quality spinners to tie things up."

He also rejected suggestions that his players had not recovered from fatigue.

"Well, we will now sit down and find out where we went wrong. But it is not everyday you play back-to-back games and we are professional cricketers and we have to manage this," he said.

Pakistan's stand in skipper Misbah-ul-Haq paid showered praise on his bowlers for restricting India to a gettable score.

"Once we restricted them to 308 we were always confident we could win this match. I told the bowlers to bowl aggressively even if they gave away runs. I think our bowlers bowled fantastically well on this flat pitch and their wickets gave us the advantage," he said.

Misbah also said that he was happy to play a crucial role in win along with Younis.

"But I think Younis played an outstanding knock and he is a controlled player. And when he plays like this we usually end up winning games."

Misbah said regardless of the outcome of the India and Sri Lanka game, Pakistan would go all out to beat Bangladesh comprehensively.

"The result of the India and Lanka game is not in our hands so we just have to think about our match rest is to fate."

Powered India begin to go all out against Pak

Karachi: Hectic schedule or not, India skipper Mahendra Dhoni would be looking to defeat Pakistan in their Asia Cup Super Four match here on Wednesday to ensure a berth in the final.

A three-day break after back-to-back matches gives no reason to complain even though there is still doubt over whether Irfan Pathan will be able to play.

The depth that Irfan provides to the team may not be needed the way the top order has been faring despite having to play so many matches.

"It was tough out there for us. But I am happy we have kept going. Suresh Raina, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have batted really well in the tournament and I hope they keep going," Dhoni had said.

Raina has scored two centuries while Sehwag and Gambhir have continued the fine form that they showed in the Indian Premier League. Yuvraj Singh, Dhoni and Rohit Sharma too would be looking to come up with notable performances.

The unhelpful tracks though have left the bowling attack look pedestrian, having gone for 299 runs against Pakistan and 284 against Bangladesh.

Ishant Sharma has been unable to work up the kind of pace he is known for and RP Singh and Praveen Kumar too have done well in patches.

For Pakistan, the challenge is to gel well as a team. Despite winning the final of the Bangladesh tri-series last month, they have looked a fragmented side.

Skipper Shoaib Malik and coach Geoff Lawson have made known their differences with selectors over selection matters and that is not something that will go down well with any team member. One will only have to wait and see if Pakistan are able to deliver once again when performances are most needed.

Teams (from):

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Manpreet Gony, Ishant Sharma, RP Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Praveen Kumar.

Sri Lanka thumped Bangladesh by 131 runs in their previous meeting in the group stage at Lahore and Mohammad Ashraful's teammates would have to pull off a huge upset if they are to stop the Sri Lankans.

As they learnt from their previous match experience, Sri Lanka's hard-hitting opening pair of Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuirya is enough to snatch the momentum, and effectively the game, and they need to come up with something special to curb the left-handed duo on Monday.

Raina, Gambhir star in India's seven-wicket win

Suresh Raina's midas touch in the Asia Cup continued as a breathtaking 116 not out by the southpaw saw India chase down the 284-run target against Bangladesh in 43.2 overs with seven wickets in hand. Gautam Gambhir also came up with a masterful 90 to power the Indian run-chase in the first Super Four clash of the Asia Cup on Saturday.

Kapali along with Mahmudullah (26 not out) added 112 runs for the sixth wicket, bailing Bangladesh out from a precarious situation after Mohammad Ashraful elected to bat.

2.Short Highlights

Kapali who came to the middle in the 24th over produced a gem of an innings, giving Bangladesh the much needed momentum. It was prototype of a perfect one-day knock, quick running doubled with lusty hits. The dynamic batsman cleared the boundary at will, smashing Yusuf Pathan for two sixes in an over and then picking Gony over the cover boundary. Falling on the penultimate ball of the innings, Kapali hit five sixes and ten boundaries in his knock.

Manpreet Gony was taken for 65 runs in his eight overs while RP Singh (1-65) after a decent initial spell took some heavy punishment in his final overs.

Tamim Iqbal took Bangladesh off to a confident start but he received little support from the other end. The top-order including Ashraful threw away their wickets with India tightening the grip after Bangladesh were scoring at five-runs-an-over. Iqbal departed for a brisk 55 which included seven boundaries.

Ojha's introduction changed the complexion of the game as the spinner's control perplexed the Bangladesh batsmen. Both Raquibul Hassan (25) and Mushfiqur Rahim (22) fell victims to Ojha's guile. The left-arm spinner returned with impressive figures of 2-43.

Australia determined to keep Windies down

St George's (Grenada): Australia captain Ricky Ponting wants his side to ride the wave of momentum from their victory in the opening match, and use it to win the second One-day International against West Indies on Friday at Queen's Park Stadium.

Australia lead the five-match series 1-0, after they successfully defended a victory target of 274 to complete an 84-run victory with 61 balls to spare in the first ODI on Tuesday at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.

Against this backdrop, Ponting has cautioned his side about allowing West Indies to gain any sort of traction in the series. "Before the first ODI, I had spoken to the guys about the West Indies team and how I felt they would have taken some confidence away from the Twenty20 game last Friday - even though it was reduced to 11 overs-a-side - and they would relish any kind of win against us," the Australia captain said.

"They had a fairly young group on the field, and they would have been plenty of this hanging over, so it was important for us to start well, and we did this. The whole focus was to get the momentum going in our way, but they will probably look at their tactics.

2.Short Highlights

"We know that they are a very capable ODI side, and they are very capable of bouncing back fairly quickly."

But Ponting believes whatever plans West Indies have that his side is also very prepared and equipped to counteract. "It's a pretty formidable squad which we have over here, when David Hussey is on the sidelines, and Andrew Symonds is injured," he said.

"The flexibility around our group is probably as good as I have seen it around an Australian team. The overall composition of the team is pretty good, and in Grenada, we can expect the same sub-continent type pitches, and I believe our overall make-up will work as well."

John Dyson admits that West Indies will have to "regroup, rethink, and work hard" if they are to draw level in the series. The West Indies coach bemoaned the lack of effort from his side in the opening ODI and made no excuses for their defeat.

"We didn't bowl well enough... We didn't bat well enough. . .It's the truth," Dyson said. "We have to regroup and rethink our approach and just work hard in the next couple of days to make sure we put up a considerably better performance in the next game. It is a series of five. It's not the end of the earth yet."

Sri Lanka comfortably win by 142 runs

Lahore: Excellent half-centuries by Mahela Jayawardene and Mahela Udawatte and a couple of crucial knocks later by Kaushalya Weeraratne and Nuwan Kulasekara enabled Sri Lanka post a competitive 290-9, that United Arab Emirates (UAE) failed to chase down, hence losing the match by 142 runs in the Asia Cup here on Thursday.

Thanks to UAE’s bowlers in Mohammad Tauqeer and Fahad Alhashmi, whose brilliant spells helped putting breaks on Sri Lanka’s scoring rate. Sharing four important wickets between themselves in the middle overs, they managed to restrict their opponents below 300. After a fine 114-run second wicket partnership between the two Mahelas, the Lankans lost the course, suddenly reeling at 209-7 but Kaushalya Weeraratne and Nuwan Kulasekara came to the team’s rescue, putting up 53 runs together to take it to an excellent total ultimately.

Choosing to get some batting practice after winning the toss, Lankans lost Kumar Sangakkara for a duck in the very first over. But opener Udawatte, who replaced Sanath Jayasuriya for this game, along with captain Jayawardene ensured no further damage.

Slowly but steadily the duo went on to build a fine innings with Jayawardene being more dominant of the two. Once the skipper opened his arms, he smashed the fielders all around the park, which included four consecutive boundaries in an over to tally 18 runs.

India Won by 6Wickets

Karachi: Pakistan scored a formidable 299-4 against India in their crucial Group B match of the Asia Cup, riding primarily on a fine century by skipper Shoaib Malik.

"However, one would still get a feeling that they could have scored a bigger total, had Malik not walked out injured at the end of the 39th over. Now Match is in Progress Stay tuned For video

"Malik began slowly, and at one time, he and fellow-opener Salman Butt were struggling against the accurate attack of Praveen Kumar, RP Singh and Ishant Sharma.

However, for all their dominance, the Indian medium-pacers failed to make any breakthroughs and the openers, after a pretty long and hard-fought innings, gradually tilted the balance in their favour.

The two put on 90 runs before Butt fell to Piyush Chawla, but Malik and Younis Khan then added 133 runs before Malik limped off the ground.

The Pakistanis should have been able to kick on from here and get well past the 300-mark, but their tempo was dented as they lost Younis, Mohd. Yousuf and Shahid Afridi.

Earlier, Malik played the predictable card and opted to bat first.

The contest becomes important as it would decide who tops the group, which may be something that comes in handy in the next phase of the league.

Pakistan went in with the same team that played against Hong Kong, while India made two changes from the side that played the first game.

Yuvraj Singh and Ishant Sharma returned to the squad, while Robin Uthappa and Manpreet Gony sat this one out.

India have a pretty good record at the National Stadium here, having defeated the hosts thrice, but if recent records are anything to go by, Pakistan have the edge, having beaten India in the final of the tri-series in Dhaka.

Teams: Pakistan: Fawad Alam, Salman Butt, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Malik (capt), Shahid Afridi, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, Iftikhar Anjum.

India: Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, MS Dhoni (capt/wk), Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, RP Singh, Ishant Sharma.

New Zealand clinch dramatic last-ball win

London: Owais Shah helped give England's bowlers something to defend by scoring 63 in a total of 245 all out against New Zealand in the fourth One-day International at The Oval here Wednesday.

England were struggling at 101 for four before a fifth-wicket stand of 75 between Ravi Bopara (58) and Shah revived the innings. Teenage pace bowler Tim Southee was the pick of New Zealand's attack with three for 47 in 10 overs.

1.Live Score card

Middlesex batsman Shah, who made a rapid 49 in England's 114-run win in the first match of this series, was run out going for a second when he failed to beat Mark Gillespie's direct hit from long-off.

England, after a steady start which saw Bell carve Gillespie for six, lost two wickets for three runs in the space of five balls. Luke Wright was brilliantly caught by a diving Ross Taylor at short mid-wicket off a powerful pull. And the Black Caps, who'd won the toss, then reduced England to 44 for two when they captured the key wicket of Kevin Pietersen for nought.

The star batsman tried to pull a good length ball from Gillespie but toe-ended a simple catch to Southee at mid-on.

There is a theory that if Pietersen gets out cheaply, England struggle. It certainly proved true during Saturday's third One-dayer at Bristol where Pietersen was out for four in a match New Zealand won by 22 runs to level the series at 1-1.

Bell, however, was batting well. But after a stand of 37 with Bopara he got himself out on 46. Trying to run the ball to third man, he gave wicket-keeper Brendon McCullum an easy catch off Southee. And it was not long before 81 for three became 101 for four when England captain Paul Collingwood was bowled off an inside edge by Southee.

Shah though struck sixes over mid-wicket off Southee and New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori, the left-arm spinner launched high over long-off.

Bopara, whose fifty came off 69 balls, couldn't press on. He was out when a checked drive off a slower ball in Gillespie's comeback over gave all-rounder Jacob Oram, fit after a hamstring problem, a simple catch at mid-on.

Shah's fifty was quicker, off 63 balls with two sixes and three fours. But the biggest problem he then faced was the inability of a batsman to stay with him. His exit was part of a sequence which saw England lose three wickets in three overs for nine runs.

India add insult to injury; thrash Hong Kong by 256 runs

Karachi: Even before the start of the match the result was known to one and all. And when both Suresh Raina and India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored centuries to pile up 374–4 against a hapless Hong Kong, the tame battle was just waiting to get over and the job was successfully finished sooner than later by Piyush Chawla, who claimed 4-23 to give India a 256-run victory against the minnows in their Asia Cup tie here on Wednesday.

It was Virender Sehwag who laid a solid platform in the beginning and from there Raina and Dhoni continued the good work to score their respective centuries as well.

A 127-run stand between the openers - Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir -- and then another huge fourth-wicket partnership of 166 between Dhoni and Raina left Hong Kong looking for cover.

Hong Kong were never in the contention chasing a huge target, and predictably they kept on losing wickets one after another, expect for a brief 45-run second wicket stand between captain Tabarak Dar (21) and James Atkinson (23).

Indian bowlers tighten the nozzle as the game progressed with spinner Chawla stealing the show with his superb bowling spell (10-2-23-4).

Meanwhile, Hong Kong batsman - Irfan Ahmed (25), Roy Lamsan (16) toiled hard in the middle to reduce the margin of defeat but finally their innings folded for 118 in 36.5 overs

Sangakkara, Jayasuriya set up 131-run win

Bangladesh were unable to repeat their winning performance against UAE as they managed 226-7 in reply to Sri Lanka's mammoth 357-9.

Jayasuriya cracked 72 runs from a mere 47 balls with 10 boundaries and three massive sixes which included an opening partnership of116 with Kumar Sangakkara, before his partner did a step better with a fluent century as the duo piled on the agony for Bangladesh, who opted to field in their second match.

Sangakkara completed his eighth One-day hundred in just 88 balls, but fell soon after in an attempt to force the run-rate, before Chamara Kapugedera plundered a 67-ball 74 to lift his side to an imposing total.

Bangladeshi openers failed to provide a solid start up front as Chaminda Vaas broke through in his second over to remove Nazimuddin, before captain Mohammad Ashraful, who starred in Bangladesh's win over UAE with his second century, was sent back for eight by Dilhara Fernando.

Middle-order batsmen Raqibul Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim steadied Bangladesh with a 78-run fourth-wicket stand, before spin wizard Muthiah Muralitharan struck to get rid of Raqibul for 44. The wily off-spinner also accounted for wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur, who top-scored with 44. Murali finished with 2-37 in his 10 overs.

Bangladesh, who were playing their second consecutive game in two days, looked jaded under sapping conditions playing against a stronger opposition. They won their inaugural tie against UAE on Tuesday.

The Sri Lankans were without the services of pacers Farveez Maharoof and Lasith Malinga, but the return of Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan added sting to the side.

Teams:

Sri Lanka: Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Lanka Silva, Tilakaratne Dilshan, Chamara Kapugedera, Chamida Vaas, Nuwan Kulasekara, Ajantha Mendis, Muttiah Muralitharan, Dilhara Fernando.

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Nazimuddin, Mohammad Ashraful (captain), Raqibul Hasan, Alok Kapali, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Dolar Mahmud, Mashrafe Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, Shahadat Hossain.

Marsh struck seven fours and one six from 97 balls to give Australia early momentum. He shared 75 for the first wicket with Shane Watson, but the visitors' innings was at the crossroads when they declined to 140 for four in the 31st over.

Haddin entered and struck four fours and one six from 52 balls. He joined Mike Hussey at the crease, and they put the Aussies back on track with a stand of 91 for the fifth wicket before he was one of four wickets that tumbled in the closing overs as the visitors chased quick runs.

Darren Sammy was the most successful West Indies bowler with two wickets for 31 runs from seven balls.

Watson, playing for Australia for the first time since the final of the World Cup last year at Bridgetown, looked solid until he played across a well-pitched delivery from Dwayne Bravo and was adjudged lbw for 31 in the 13th over.

Australia's batsmen tried to maintain the frenetic scoring rate set by their openers, but West Indies claimed three wickets to get back into the match.

Ricky Ponting was bowled for six, when he dragged a ball from Jerome Taylor on to his stumps in the 19th over.

Michael Clarke chased a wide ball from Sammy and was caught behind for nine in the 25th over.

And Marsh was caught at cover off Sammy, when he drove a slower ball straight into the lap of West Indies captain Chris Gayle in the 31st over.

Haddin came to the wicket and turned things around for the Aussies with some enterprising batting.

But he was caught at long-off off Sulieman Benn in the 45th over, and Hussey fell in similar fashion in the 48th over for 44 from 58 balls to expose the Australian tail.

Cameron White was lbw to Sarwan for eight in the 49th over, and James Hopes was bowled by Bravo for nine off the third-last ball of the innings in the late flourish.

Tanvir, Alam guide Pakistan to 155-run win

Karachi: Pakistan overcame some early hiccups as Fawad Alam and Sohail Tanvir led a great rescue work to help their team register an easy 155-run victory in the end against Hong Kong in the opening match of the six-nation Asia Cup on Tuesday.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan lost their top and middle–order and were struggling at 161-7, before a crucial eight-wicket partnership of 100 runs between Alam (63 not out) and Tanvir (59) enabled them recover and post a competitive 288-9 in their allotted 50 overs.

But it was Hong Kong’s Nadeem Ahmed who stole the show with his impressive 4-51 from 9 overs as he instilled a sense of fear in Pakistani batsmen at one stage, despite Younis Khan’s fine 65-ball 67.

Ultimately though, it was a patient innings by Alam, coupled with an aggressive batting style of Tanvir, who then picked up two wickets as well, that paid rich dividends for the hosts.

Chasing 289, Hong Kong played out seven overs without losing a wicket. But once Tanvir got the first break-through, the visitors failed to revive at any point in time and finished at 133-9 from 37.2 overs.

Zain Abbas (26) and James Atkinson (18) tried providing some stability with 31-run stand together but eventually they couldn't sustain, while Abbas also got injured and never took the field again.

Meanwhile, Munir Dar (14), Najeeb Amar (21) got the starts but only delayed the inevitable.

Pakistani bowlers, on the other hand, maintained a tight line, giving no option to opponents.

Rao Iftikhar Anjum (2-18), Tanvir (2-20), and Shahid Afridi (2-31) were the pick of the bowlers.

Earlier, after losing Salman Butt in the very first over, Pakistan took a long time to get into the rhythm as they managed to put on just 20 runs at the end of the fifth overs.

The UAE were never in the hunt of overhauling Bangladesh's massive total, but Khurram Khan's dogged 78 from 81 balls typified the minnows' resistance.

Fast bowlers Mashrafe Mortaza and Shahadat Hossain, and then spinner Abdur Razzak had UAE in all sorts of trouble when they reduced their opponents to 48-3 inside the first 10 overs, but Arshad Ali (41) and Khurram Khan delayed the inevitable with remarkable character.

Khurram Khan, who had nine boundaries in his entertaining knock, was the ninth man out to Abdur Razzak for his 100th ODI wicket, who finished as the winning team's best bowler with outstanding figures of 3-20 in his 10 overs.

Earlier, Bangladesh recovered from an early setback with a 95-run partnership between Tamim Iqbal (40) and Ashraful before the Bangladesh captain added 141 runs for the third wicket with Raqibul Hasan, who hammered 83 off just 63 balls, before UAE pulled them back with four quick wickets.

Bangladesh, who lost their last seven One-dayers including crushing defeats in the recently concluded Kitply Cup tri-series at home, didn't get off to the best of starts as opener Nazimuddin fell in the first over after Ashraful elected to bat.

However, Ashraful, along with the rest of the top order, got Bangladesh back with entertaining knocks coupled with slipshod fielding by UAE.
