Deccan eye semi-finals after sensational win
Johannesburg: High on confidence after the last-ball victory against Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist is now eyeing another win in their next outing against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday to seal a semi-final berth in the Indian Premier League.

With 12 points from 12 matches and only one match left after Sunday's clash, Kings XI Punjab will have to win against Deccan, who have 14 points from 12 outings, if they desire to be in the running for the remaining two semi-final spots after Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings have already reserved their place in the last four.

Chennai, who lost to Mumbai in the tournament opener, look in a stronger position in Saturday's encounter despite their unimpressive fielding but surely boasts of a strong batting line-up which also runs deep with the likes of Australian swashbuckler Matthew Hayden, Suresh Raina, Dhoni, Jacob Oram and S Badrinath in their ranks.

Their bowling department is also studded with world's highest wicket-taker Muttiah Muralitharan, Lakshmipathy Balaji and greenhorn Shahdab Jakati, who is proving very effective for the side.

Chennai would also have a reason to approach the match with a relaxed mindset as they would still have two more chances to score enough points and make the last four stage as they round off their league campaign with matches against tournament laggards Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab.

Mumbai, on their part, would be under pressure as none of their tactics payed off against Rajasthan Royals yesterday with Shane Warne-led side edging outing them by two runs.

With frequent chopping and changing in their batting order, Mumbai's star studded line up buckled under pressure in the last few matches.

But Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya along with JP Duminy, Dwayne Bravo and Abhishek Nayar would be expected to go all guns blazing to pull off tomorrow's affair in their favour.

Their bowling department, led by star bowlers Lasitha Malinga and Harbhajan Singh, will also have to rise to the occasion in the need of the hour.

With pressure already being their weakness, Mumbai will be further buried under the huge load of tackling the tournament toppers Chennai Super Kings tomorrow and Delhi Daredevils in their subsequent encounter.

"We have got big teams to play. We have got Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils who are on the top. It will not be easy and it is a big task for us. We need to help ourselves. We need to get those 15 points to see us through," admitted Mumbai's chief mentor Shaun Pollock after losing against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday.

It's the first Twenty20 international in Sri Lanka. India overwhelmed the home side in the five-match ODI series and are again favourites for the Twenty20 game. India are winners of the ICC World Twenty20 and Sri Lanka are without several key players, but the format gives the underdogs an outside chance to spring a surprise. More than the result, however, this match allows Sri Lanka to try out a few players. The return of Lasith Malinga is undoubtedly the high point and Dilhara Lokuhettige, reputed to be a Twenty20 specialist, should get a chance to show his skills.

India are looking Superb to finish the series with 5-0. Never the less Sri Lankans will be hoping that they do not get the worst defeat since the World Cup won by Sri Lankan Team in 1996. Also, 5-0 will lead them to go towards 8th ranking of the ICC. More over, this match is important for Indians as each Win from now is way to touch No. 1 Ranking of the ICC. India has reached first time No. 2 position and if they win the last odi against sri lanka and also continue the winning trend in New Zealand they will take the top spot for some time atleast.

Colombo: With Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men holding their nerves in Colombo on Saturday, India now have the chance to wrap their second consecutive series win in Sri Lanka in the third ODI. So far, the on-a-high Indian team have been a bit too sharp for Mahela Jayawardene's men so far. India are up 2-0 in the series and victory in Tuesday's crucial game will round off things quickly.
India now have seven consecutive victories and coach Gary Kirsten said they are keen to keep the momentum going as they look to clinch the five-match ODI series.

India took 23 years to secure their first bilateral one-day series win in Sri Lanka, finally accomplishing the feat last August. Less than six months on, the Indian juggernaut stands on the brink of a reprise. Besides clinching the series, a victory at the Premadasa on Tuesday will also equal India's longest winning sequence in one-dayers - eight. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has already warned against complacency, and also said that though India negotiated the threat of Ajantha Mendis and Muttiah Muralitharan well in the first two games, the pair posed a formidable challenge.

India (probable) 1 Sachin Tendulkar, 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Gautam Gambhir, 4 Suresh Raina, 5 Yuvraj Singh, 6 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Pragyan Ojha, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Munaf Patel.

Despite the loss in Dambulla, Sri Lanka are likely to go in with an unchanged side. Their middle order came good in the final two ODIs against Pakistan, and with their fast bowlers in good form, they'll probably resist the temptation to make a change after one defeat.

Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 5 Thilina Kandamby, 6 Chamara Kapugedera, 7 Thilan Thushara, 8 Farveez Maharoof, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10 Muttiah Muralitharan, 11 Ajantha Mendis.

Pitch & conditions

The pitch at the Premadasa Stadium is a dry one and is expected to favour batting. However, Mahela Jayawardene said the bowlers stood to benefit in the first ten overs under lights. Going by the recent trend, the side winning the toss may well opt to bat first.

Lets see how Srilanka will approach this second ODI, because if they lose it, they would have lost the series. The bowling attack consisting of Murali and Mendis still looks very potent and can easily bring turnaround in the series, but nevertheless, their batsmen should bring on consistency with them which they are finding it hard even with minor teams lately. If thats the case, then they will have to head to Lahore with already series out of hand and clean sweep in mind.

For Pakistan, a country starved of international cricket for over six months celebrated with a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka to take a 1-0 lead in the series, thanks to the efforts of Salman Butt and Khurram Manzoor, who made light work of the 220-run target. Pakistan took full advantage of a jaded Sri Lankan side still circumspect with their form after struggling against weak sides in the recent months. They will want to continue their winning form and have the series in bag tomorrow.
